The NCFlowers application focuses on wild flowering plant identification located in an area bounded by Sault Ste Marie on the West, Lake Huron to the East, Manitoulin Island to the South and the Ontario shoreline to the North. The application uses a series of 13 visible plant characteristics such as flower colour, flower shape, leaf shape, stem type, blooming month, etc to help identify flowering plants on islands in the North Channel. Unlike a keyed search method any of the characteristics can be selected and combined as search criteria into the database. Possible candidates are listed and a detailed description can be obtained for each. Photographs are included to verify identity. A word search capability into the descriptive text is also available. The database is limited to 150 wild flowering plants observed during cruising in the North Channel and does not include garden/flower bed varieties.
